About the name "Andropausa":
Andropause, testicular hypofunction, androgen insufficiency Partial Senior Man or male hypogonadism late are terms used to classify a progressive decrease in testosterone production in men after age 50. But while the menopause affect all women suddenly after a certain age, andropause reaches only about 25% of men after 50 years of slowly and gradual.1
Testosterone is responsible for characteristics associated with man as deep voice, beard, hair, muscles, Adam's apple and reproductive capacity. From the age of 40, there is a decrease of 1.2% per year in circulating levels of free testosterone. Logo 70 is about 35% lower than those of an adult jovem.2
This decline is multifactorial and involve, in addition to natural decline with age, primary testicular changes, dysfunction of the neuroendocrine regulation of gonadotropin, elevated serum concentrations of sex hormone binding globulin and decreased sensitivity of receptors androgênicos.2
Smoking, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, consumption of meat and fatty foods, stress and depression are associated with a significant decrease in the levels of testosterona.2
